Genesis 27
Today we read Genesis 27. Deceptive Jacob, scheming Rebekah, unwitting Isaac, and impulsive Esau all fall short of the Lord’s perfect standard. Our hope cannot rest on human nature or accomplishments. We share in this fallen humanity and often act like these biblical figures. Despite this sorry state, Christ became our substitute. He loved us and gave Himself up for us, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God. He was cursed so we may be blessed (Galatians 3:13). Through the means of grace (Gospel and Sacraments), we receive the blessings of Christ’s saving acts. • Lord, we thank You for providing a salvation that does not rely on our virtue or accomplishments. Amen.
