The most famous verse in this chapter is John 3:16: the “miniature Bible.” For God so loved the world means that He loves *you* and gave His only Son *for you* that *you* might believe in Him and have eternal life!

In John 2:19, Jesus prophesies that He will be crucified (on a day we now call Good Friday) and then return from the dead on the third day (a day we now call Easter Sunday). He did this for you! If you believe this, He forgives all your sins and grants you eternal life.

The Word became flesh. This means that two thousand years ago, God came to earth in the form of Jesus. Jesus is 100% God and 100% man. *** John the Baptist is a follower of Jesus and guides people toward Him, the one who is “the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world” (John 1:29).
